The October 2009 edition of "Gourmet Traveller Wine" magazine is featuring Canberra District wines, and the Wallaroo 2008 Riesling was selected to be in the article:
'...impressed us with its delicate flavour and balance. Forrestal (Peter Forrestal) found it "restrained on the nose, with apple and pear. Lovely succulence on the mid-palate. Really vibrant and bright." Hooke (Huon Hooke) added, "Delicacy, with good line and length." I like the way the wine combines depth of flavour with finesse. Its quite dry and crisp, with the fruit to carry structure. It's lovely now and will develop more richness over at least five years.' - Winemaking consultant Nick Bulleid.
Chris Shanahan, wine reviewer for The Canberra Times, gave the following review for the highly-acclaimed 2006 Shiraz:
"This delicious, fine-boned shiraz, from Canberra's Hall sub-region, earned a silver medal a few weeks back in Decanter magazine's World Wine Awards, London - putting it in the top 13 per cent of the approximately 10,000 wines judged at the event....what you'd expect from cooler Canberra - fine, elegant wines with silky texture and intense berry and spice flavours. This is a lovely regional style."
Sarah Ahmed, the "Wine Detective", and well known for her wine reviews in Europe, recently conducted a tasting of Wallaroo Wines:
“For me the stand out was the 06 Cabernet Sauvignon - lovely concentration, fine grained tannins and perfumed, chocolate edged red cherry fruit that I've picked up in another Canberra Cabernet.
Enjoyed the peppery, savoury character and fleshy plum of the Shiraz - this kind of mid-weight non fruit bomb style is generally well received at tastings.
The Riesling had good cool climate Aussie typicity in terms of the flavour profile - grapefruit/grapefruit pith, & the sparkling Riesling - a fun aperitif, and the crown cap seal is a good look."
Wallaroo Wines headed to Sydney to participate in the 2009 New South Wales Wine Week on March 1. Held in Hyde Park, the major event, the "Sydney Cellar Door", saw 110 NSW wineries showcase their wines to an estimated audience of 20,000 people.
